Lofoten (Norwegian pronunciation: [lu;fu;tn]) Lofoten is known for a distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. Though lying within the Arctic.
The archipelago is located on the northeastern coast of the county Nordland and belongs administratively to the municipalities Vågan and Lofoten. The main islands are Austvågøy, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøya, Moskenesøya, Grytøya and Senja. From Haukland in the south to Ristvatset in the north (both on Vestvågøy), there are three different kinds of setting: inner mountain areas with peaks reaching 1,500 meters above sea level; narrow valleys around 500 meters wide with irregular landscape formed by the glacier; and large fertile plains at sea level below 300 meters above mean sea level. To the north rise sheer cliffs which face Norwegian Sea at an angle of 30 degrees and more. The coast includes many fjords like Lyngenfjorden, Storfjorden, Svolvær fjord plus several smaller bays such as Husvikfjorden and Hustadfjorden.
Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world’s largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude.
This part of the Earth offers breathtaking views of coastal villages and fjords, making it visual playground of a serious landscape photographer. And if we will get lucky, we will be able to see and capture the magnificent Northern Lights since January is considered as one of the best months to see the Northern Lights.
You are about to join a private trip down to the stunning region of Norway’s Arctic Circle, Lofoten. You will get to experience photographing dramatic mountain peaks covered with snow and surrounded by surreal beaches.
